Greg Neal was born in England in 1954, moved to California in 1991, then to Washington in 2016.

At that time he retired from a career in electronics and firmware design. He is listed as the inventor on 12 or more US patents.

He has worked in various artistic media individually, mostly sculptural for a few decades, as well as contributing to larger group-based art projects.

In 2018 he began creating welded steel sculptures, mostly of birds. Early pieces were welded steel, but he later shifted to stainless steel so that the pieces retained their surface finish, and are more suitable for our wet and salty environment. The bases are generally regular steel so that if rusted they are less visible.

Greg has two pieces both at the Price Sculpture Forest in Coupeville and the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, as well as around eight pieces outside the Port Townsend Gallery.

He strives to catch an important aspect of the life of the critters he renders, showing them doing what they do best, and trying to convey the impression of movement. The pieces are usually larger than life in order to give more impact.
